Several Rutherford County prep football teams are ranked in the first statewide poll of the season.

Oakland is ranked number one in the Class 6A poll, just ahead of this week's opponent Maryville.

Instead of mailing printed rules books to schools, rules books are now delivered digitally directly to coaches through the use of the NFHS Rules app. The app is free for smartphones and tablets through the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

Stewarts Creek used a strong second half to push past Siegel 28-0 to open the 2018 prep football season.

After a slow start for both teams with several penalties and a scuffle late in the first quarter that led to a player from both teams being ejected, it was Stewarts Creek which settled into their offense and put the first points on the scoreboard just before the half on a 30-yard field goal by Joel Aguero (one of two on the night).

All football teams have questions to answer going into the first prep game of the season. Siegel and Stewarts Creek are no different.

Stars coach Michael Copley (COPE-lee) says there is no actual game film to break down for his opponent, but he knows the Red Hawks will be sound:
