Floyd Walker had the interim tag removed as Eagleville's football coach on Monday as he was named the successor to Steve Carson, who was fired after the Eagles lost to Boyd Buchanan in the first round of the TSSAA playoffs.

Walker played tailback at MTSU under coach Boots Donnelly and was an assistant under him and Andy McCollum for more than 15 years.

Walker, who has been on the Eagleville staff for five years, coached running backs, defensive ends, defensive backs and tight ends at MTSU. The Clarksville native, 50, has coached quarterbacks, receivers at the Eagles secondary at Eagleville.

After the first-round playoff loss, Eagleville finished 5-6. Principal Bill Tollett said he was looking for new leadership and a new direction at the helm. It will be Walker's first head-coaching job at the prep level.
