  2. Approved Minutes of Last Meeting
  3. The Board voted to give the state office staff permission to conduct the draw for the State Wrestling Tournament.
  • Heard Review of the 2016 Regional Meetings
  • Heard Review of 2016 Fall Sports state tournament events in golf, volleyball, girls’ soccer, cross country, and cheer/dance championships.
  • The staff updated the Board on Regional Basketball Sites for 2016-2017.
  • Approved TSSAA Membership Contracts for 2016-2017
  • Voted to not allow schools to participate in posteason competition until any outstanding fines or membership dues are paid.
  • Heard update from TSSAA Sports Medicine Advisory Committee
  • Heard update regarding the TMSAA Cross Country Championships that were held on Saturday, October 8.
  • Approved request of W.E.B. Du Bois High School of Leadership and Public Policy for TSSAA Membership. The high school would initially like to offer the sports of boys’ and girls’ basketball and track and field.  W.E.B. Dubois High School of Leadership & Public Policy will be placed in Division I, Class A, District 16, Region 8 for basketball and in the Class A-AA West Tennessee Section in track and field.
  • Union County High School withdrew their request to not play a region football schedule in 2017 and 2018.
  • Voted for state office to research and bring back to the Board official’s assignor’s fees that would be fair and reasonable across the state for each sport.
  • Voted to change the Division I Golf Regulations to read:
  • “In Division I district competition, the top three teams and the top five individual not on one of the three teams with the best scores shall advance to the regional championship. The regional champion team and the top three individual players not on the team shall advance to the state championships.”

    1. Denied Memphis Catholic High School’s Request to allow them to form a cooperative agreement with St. Benedict. Memphis Catholic has fielded a team the last two years, hosting a co-op with Memphis Academy of Science & Engineering who are now forming their own team.
    2. Voted to reduce Smyrna High School’s penalty regarding an Independent Game Rule Violation in wrestling to one competition date.
    3. Board voted to table the decision on site selection for the State Golf Championships from 2017-2020 until the January Board meeting. They asked the staff to get feedback from golf coaches regarding potential site selection of either Willowbrook Golf Club in Manchester or Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro.
