The 72nd season of high school sports coverage on NewsRadio WGNS begins this week.

State Farm prep sports kicks off with Oakland at Hendersonville Friday night. A special Saturday night game with Alcoa visiting Blackman will also be broadcast this week.

Station Manager Bryan Barrett begins his 25th year of sports broadcasting this season, with Jon Dinkins close behind at 23-years. The two have broadcast hundreds of games together and this season will be their 17th calling football. Rod Edwards will again be in the booth for color commentary, which he's done for four seasons now.

We will debut a brand new football pregame show this season. Dinkins will host and be joined by Edwards and Clark Blair for the Primetime Sports Countdown to Kickoff, sponsored by the Law Offices of John Day. Coverage begins after the news at 6pm prior to each game.

The broadcasts will wrap up with the Prentice Alsup Heating and Air Postgame Show - complete stats on the game, highlights and scores from across Middle Tennessee.

Last year, the crew broadcast 154 games and coaches shows dedicated to promoting high school sports.
